To test Printer Status Repeatly using Borland C/C++ 5.02

I am having problems using Borland 5.02 C/C++ for testing printer
status repeatly. I wish to use my printer to detect off-line, removing
paper, and so on with my software. I have tried using bio_print,
bios_printer, and bio_serialcom but my program cannot detect it. I am
using Windows XP and I have read that these functions can't be used
since Windows 98 operating system will not support the functions. Can
you help show a simple program which can just show the printer status
without using serial port to write too.

under DOS any moe. It is over 13 years that DOS
disappeared.

Knowing the status of the printer is difficult since if
print spooling is turned ON, the "printer" is always
ready. Besides, the printer can be a network printer
and in that case is difficult to query the printer status.

every copy of Windows ME. Was ME discontinued 13 years ago?

I think Jacob just typo'd - and wrote 13 when he meant 3.

An argument (albeit a weak one) can be made that DOS ended in 2001, which
is about when MS stopped shipping ME.

Still OT, but they have not completely stopped shipping it. As an MSDN
subscriber (through my company) I have a DVD which includes ME and 98
and can even download DOS 5 and Win3.1. They just don't ship it for
retail.
