Hi. I'm in the first stages of developing a web site. I'm at least
moderately well versed in it (I have the MCAD certification, anyway), so I'm
having no problem with the programming and all that.
However, I don't want to do all of the programming myself, if I can get off
the shelf components that do it easily. I want to include a forum area on
the site. In using forums on other sites, I really like the ones that use
vBulletin as their forum engine. The problem with that, of course, is that
vBulletin is a Linux/mySQL application. I would prefer something that is
similar, but works under a .NET environment.
Cost is a major concern, which makes vBulletin attractive. (I can afford the
160 bucks for the license, plus the cost of a computer to run it on, and a
connection to the net, but not much more than that.) I could build up the
Linux based forum site, and just redirect my users from my ASP.Net site to
the forum site when they wanted to use the forum features, but I would rather
host everything under the same environment. Is there something cheap that I
can use that would provide that functionality?
This is somewhat similar to another question asked recently on this board,
and the suggestion there was to have somone else do it. For cost reasons,
that isn't an option for me. I know how to do it with vBulletin, I just
would prefer not to if there's a natively hosted ASP.Net compatible solution
available at a reasonable price.
