Application Infrastructure - Desktop JRE Engineer (New Position)

Job Description:
Within IT, Application Infrastructure (AI) has been established as a
one-stop shop for internal developers that build solutions for both
internal and external clients. As an integral part of this strategy,
our Desktop Engineering team oversees the horizontal suite of critical
enterprise products (Office, Outlook, Acrobat, Internet Explorer,
Firefox, etc) that exist globally on all 56,000 desktops. This
includes product and vendor management, integration engineering,
governance, and custom development to leverage our investment in these
products. This position requires the candidate to be a part of a
global engineering team that will standardize all Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) usage on Windows desktops and improve stability and
security within the Firm. The role involves architecting and deploying
a scalable way to manage installations and maintenance of the JRE
across the plant as well as assisting application owners with
migration and remediation challenges between versions. The right
candidate will have a blend of deep Windows internals experience and
Java application design and development knowledge.
Skills Required:
Strong Java Application Development Background ○ Detailed
knowledge of different Java Runtime Environments (JRE's) ○
Strong web development skills (Javascript/Perl/HTML/AJAX) ○
Background in developing/deploying/maintaining web-based & standalone
Java Applications · Strong Expertise on Windows Platform ○ OS
Configuration/Internals, Active Directory, Application Scripting (MSI)
○ Deployment (SMS, Bigfix) and Management (Group Policy), etc. ·
Desktop Virtualization Technologies ○ Softricity/SoftGrid
○ Citrix/Terminal Services · Deep Understanding of Network and
Proxy protocols and Debugging · Basic Working Knowledge of Unix/Linux.
Skills Desired:
Windows programming experience with C++, VB6, VB.Net or C# ·
Experience with Microsoft .NET Technology (CLR Configuration) ·
Experience developing unit and regression tests. The ideal candidate
must have: · A willingness to explore and learn new technologies as
the need arises. · An ability to communicate and present technical
design and concepts · High degree of motivation to expand technical
and business knowledge and understanding. · Ability to work
collaboratively across teams and time zones.
