Virtual Server 2005

Fred Herring

I have seen this product advertised on the msdn download site. I run windows
server 2003 with 1 web service and 1 web site. I don't really understand
what virtual server means to me and my setup and if I should consider it.

Thanks,

Fred,

If that is the extent of what you're running in your environment, then
Virtual Server is overkill. The idea behind Virtual Server is to allow for
the consolidation of multiple servers onto a single piece of hardware, while
allowing the apparent continuation of multiple servers. That is to say, that
if you currently had four servers, you could instead run four instances of
virtual server on a single machine and no application dependent on the
original servers would know the difference.

So it's about hardware consolidation, which is something that I suspect
isn't a concern of yours with that setup you described ;)

Hope that helps
