Web server/site basics.

I have a number of general questions that I can't seems to find
answers to on the internet. Some are very basic questions and if
someone can help me I would be really appreciative . I have been
designing an intranet using asp's. The web server is set up on my pc
as opposed to a server. I am using IIS 5. The reason it is on my pc
is the intranet is in the development stage and is only accessed by a
select number of people. Prior to the full scale release I will move
the site to a server.

Here goes:

What is the difference between a sub web and a subfolder. I wanted to
group similar asp's together in a folder but don't know if I should
use a sub web of just a folder.

My default web site is in my wwwroot folder. Am I supposed to create
a virtual folder and point my users to that, while doing the editing
in my wwwroot folder and publishing the results to the virtual folder?
I just don't want to be creating a security risk by allowing users to
access the wwwroot directory (if there is any). I am a little
confused about the default web site thing and virtual folders.

Is there any web site(s) (other than ms & msdn) that go into more of a
basic explanation of web servers (particularly IIS).

I am a programmer who has to become a web admin and need all the help
I can get.

Thanks for the help.
