XSD: Character in regular expression

I have an XSD that contains a pattern with the expression '[^.]'. Can
anyone tell me what this means?

I have an XSD that contains a pattern with the expression '[^.]'. Can
anyone tell me what this means?

[]
either lists characters to match or if it starts with
[^]
then it lists characters not to match.
So in that case
[^.]
matches anything but the dot '.' character.
