My stopping using them, or sending a complaint, is as likely to
result in them changing their policies as...well... the OTHER complaints
people say they're ignoring. And won't impact the sporger in the least.

If you stop using them, they suffer a small but real economic impact.
That fact gives your complaints a little more weight than the complaints
of non-customers.
If you and other customers convince them to adopt a more
sporger-unfriendly attitude, then you will be impacting the sporger at
least a little bit.

True, but I won't do that; I save, as I said, significant money by
using them for three-in-one. Thus there's no point in the complaint as
I have no actual threat or leverage behind it.

*shrug* Then I may have to remain invisible, and if it becomes more
widespread, stop using Usenet (since no one will be seeing me anyway at
that point). I get the combination of internet, cable, and phone service a
lot more cheap from them than I could by splitting them separately between
other providers, and it's a hell of a lot easier then dealing with the
foibles of three different companies and three different bills.

The issue isn't ISP, it's NNTP server. If RoadRunner does become unusable,
it's possible to find another one (at the cost, of course, of an additional
bill.)

Though not a large one. news.individual.net, for example, is 10
euros (currently a bit under $15) per year.

Because RR won't do the job they're supposed to, why should they be allowed to
participate?

UseNET is entirely cooperative. If you don't play by the rules, there are
plenty of people who *will*, and RR could farm out to them.

Instead, they're allowing spamming, out of pure laziness.

Technically, roadrunner is farming out their Usenet service to
newshosting.com, a partner/subsidary of highwinds-media.com.

Highwinds/Newshosting have been among the conduits-of-choice for
usenet spam runs and sprogery attacks for many, many moons. In the
past couple of weeks, after an active Usenet Death Penalty was
declared and for a short time implemented, highwinds started deploying
filters that seem to be at least somewhat effective. They claim that
they're working on the newshosting/roradrunner filters and expect them

The whole point of a UDP, after all, is to encourage the offending ISP's
customers to pressure it to comply, not to drive the ISP out of business.

Meanwhile, sporgeboy seems to have switched yesterday to usenetserver.com ...

And aioe.org is free; you don't even have to register. There are some usage
restrictions, but they're not too bad; see their web site for details.

I still see you Waspy. NIN is apparently letting RR posts through while
dealing with the sporge in some other fashion.

I've been a Roadrunner customer for a number of years; I didn't find out
about their failure to police their users until a few days ago.
Unfortunately, they're the only reasonable high-speed ISP available to
me.

Curious...I'm one of those who's not seeing Sea Wasp's posts, and I
haven't been seeing any of the recent sporge-attack. But I do see
this one from you.

That's because I'm now posting through aioe.org until this thing blows over.
(I'm assuming that it will blow over.)

Of course if he could just stop the use of their Usenet services,
wouldn't
that work? Then just use Google or something instead.
