I found usability and/or accessiblity problems at 99.9999% of the Flash
sites I've ever visited. That says something about those particular
designers, no? I'm still waiting for someone to point to some Flash
site(s) made by clueful designers. I don't think they exist, except
perhaps in theory.

You just have a chip on your shoulder. Speaking of Chip, anyone ever
see him around any more?

Both Microsoft and Macromedia have a magnifier. He doesn't like them.

Here we go with "like" again. The solutions you suggest suck. Flash's
zoom feature is dysfunctional, assuming the site has it enabled at all.
The MS magnifier made me dizzy the few times I've tried to use it. I'd
rather not barf all over my keyboard, if you don't mind.

Again I ask, what's "like" got to do with it?
I am sorry he doesn't like the solution, but there are two of them.

I'm sorry that you are a bonehead, too.

Probably none. Either that or "It must be your system..."

Surprise, surprise! I got this from them today:

"The text IS small, and this is something we are looking into changing
as we enter our next redesign phase.
Laura Matey
Webmaster, Subaru.com"

Hurray for us! Maybe they'll even dump the Flash. :)

Actually, subaru made that choice for me, too, when they disabled the
Flash zoom control.

I haven't tried it, but does Opera's page zoom feature work on Flash?

Not that that excuses them, of course.

Then you are shit out of luck when it comes to Flash. Sounds like you
are a very bitter person to me because every solution anyone can give
you sucks.. This sucks, that sucks, life sucks. You only get one life,
you need to appreciate it a little more, and stop being so bitter.
Again I ask, what's "like" got to do with it?

It's "What's love got to do with it". (Man you don't even know music)

With a site that is NOT a primary money maker (Cartoon channel, the
Subaru site, etc...)

If Subaru wasn't the only manufacturer who made a car that fit my needs I
sure as hell wouldn't have bought one based on the fact that I couldn't use
their flash only website to locate dealers... Fortunately for them google
wasn't so user unfriendly... The silly part of this is that a metric butt
load of their customers are not hip and are on slow dial up in rural
areas...

I am sure they are forever in your debt....

I am sure if you write them, telling them of your dilemma, they will
change.

In spite of your sarcasm, I tend to agree with you on sites such as barbie
and cartoon network... What I fail to understand is why an automotive
manufacturer, in a highly competitive business which spends
millions/billions of dollars in advertising, would have a website that
shuts out a multitude of potential 20-30k dollar customers... I find this
particularly confusing with Subaru which is extremely customer service
oriented... Perhaps you could enlighten my as to what I'm missing...

They obviously have decided that if you take the total number of people
that would use the site if it were plain generic HTML, is LESS than the
number of people that use it with the flash. If enough people bitch and
moan, and complain about it, then they may change. Which is fine if
they do.

A company has to decide what percentage of their page is information,
what percent is for entertainment, and what part is e-commerce? Then
you try to decide what will you loose vs. what will you gain by using
different technologies.

LOL, don't ever try to go into business - oh! looks like you already have
and with a website that doesn't appear to work fully in any browser.

Speaking of which, My son is performing stand-up at the Stardust Casino
on the 30th and 31st of October (in the Wayne Newton Theater). Not sure
what the price is as I am getting in for free. But if you want to meet
the infamous Whitecrest, just stop in either night. I will be with my
son after his act.

But I digress, The web site is not a business. And the company I do
work for has more work that we could ever hope for. Because everyone
seems to be leaning in the "what can we give broad band users" mode, and
it pays very well to know how to do the pizzazz.
