I need a very easy to use WYSIWYG editor, not a full-featured editor.

Flowcharts? I had this idea it was an MS page layout thing...
Anyway, no matter, Jonathan:

I have some .pub docs I need to extract info from. If I get
Publisher and stick it on a Windows box and open these docs, is
it relatively straightforward to extract the pics and text so I
can get them out to my Mac to include in a website? Not keen on
stopping to learn a MS product right now... (My client has no
time or particular knowledge about this, the .pub are part of the
materials given to me).

Hi dorayme! I don't have Publisher these days, but AFAIR you can drag the
images off the page onto the desktop, and then save them from there onto a
USB stick or something. With the text, it is in text boxes, and I think
there is a choice to "edit in Word". Then you can save the Word files and
extract the text from there. I hope you're not planning to "buy" Publisher
though! Borrow a friend's version.

I couldn't resist. I sent an email to the site owner... ;-)

...who forwarded it to the Publishing webmistress, who sent me a scathing
"how dare you" reply. :-0

Hmmm, could you forward part if not all of the reply on to the NG? Or
maybe you could just forward the thread on to her?.
It sounds like her responce would be very interesting to read.

I could post it here, but in the interest of good fellowship among
fellow web authors (me and her), it probably wouldn't be a good idea to
expose her complete and total *ire* to the world at large.

Suffice it to say she was .. um .. pissed! (Merican version)

In my subsequent reply (where I CC'd the site owner because she failed
to do so) [oops!], I did invite her to sign up to alt.html.critique and
request a world full of developers to have a look. <g>

Jonathan, I didn't mention your name...

I and this woman could never get along. <g>

Still waiting for a subsequent reply; she must be off at the day job. Or
maybe my screen shots (posted at one of my hosts), and the link to the
validator showing 659 errors on the main page has hit home.

I also suggested she download a couple modern browsers.

Thanks, Sally, this is what I was hoping... Excellent.

Nawww ... oh well, maybe, if she reports me to the "abuse" desk. ;-)

I would not publicly post it either, poor taste, but wouldn't mind if
you forwarded one to me (yes that's a real email). My friend 'hired'
this webmaster extraordinaire. I was going to make up a demo page but
haven't been able to download the images yet to properly resize them!
And the insight would help for me to convince my friend to dump designer.

Hmm, I'll have to think about that.

I don't think she realizes she's using the wrong tool and technique for the
www.
I also suggested she download a couple modern browsers.

It honestly helped me when I started realizing there was more to web than
IE4, NN4, and Legacy.

Sample Redsky Ibizan Hounds Site

Nicely done. Works in any browser, of course, and loads fast. <g>

I'd alter the color a bit ... too similar to your own site, and the Red
Sky owner may notice that. Background and those window-framing colors.
Otherwise, it'll git 'er done.

So ... are you going to send the link to the owner? ;-)

[Still no further replies from that woman.]

Yeah I just did it fast, I have a client coming in today for a paying job.
So ... are you going to send the link to the owner? ;-)

Jep! But she works nights so I'd expect she'll get my email this morning.
[Still no further replies from that woman.]
Nope, but she doesn't sound very professional. Even if the criticism is
harsh if it is a usability issue I would want to know everything I could
about the problem, not rebuff the complaint.

"I don't care, it works on my computer." <heh>
"I have other Publisher web sites that work."

Ahhh.
That just sounds like a tipical Microsoft application useing web
designer. By that I mean the type of people who love Publisher and
other products and they also like to try and control every aspect of
the way there site looks, by useing fixxed widths etc etc.
