'rookies (me) swing'?
Could you translate that to English?

'this', in Javascript, is a reference to the local object scope.
Pointing outside this NG's scope is off topic.
Javascript does not tolerate script errors like CSS does.

Hmmm. So, if a person ask about PERL, and someone points them to a PERL
group, then the reply is off-topic? Wow. :)

In a sense it is, because the OQ is off topic.

Pointing an off topic Q's OP in ther right direction
makes a NG a general Q-aire,
and that's what Netiquette in it's ancient wisdom tries to prevent.

But I tried to give the OP his
[his?, not even a nickname to suggest the binary type of newbe]
first lesson in Javascript scope by explaining 'this'.

Tolerant, isn't it?

I still do not understand the OQ about swinging rookies.
Should we have pointed her to alt.dancing.fifties.unmoderated?

Before you do, please learn not to quote signatures. Everything from
the line containing "-- " and afterward should be automatically
removed from quotes, if not by your news reader then by you.

The Google groups interface doesn't do it automatically, so replies
posted from Google groups often contain the signature because the
poster is either unaware that they should be trimmed or can't be
bothered to do it.

In any case, quotes in replies should be trimmed to just what you are
replying to, you shouldn't automatically quote the entire previous
message. Notes on posting are included in the FAQ:
