Newbees: It's Quiz Time

To borrow a comment from another of your posts:

Accessible, in your eyes alone. It still sucks.

This is *exciting* code! This code is for *one* link!

BTW, taking your "quiz" using the MSN 2.8 viewer, I filled in the ten

Sometimes you have to dodge the abuse,
but this is a public newsgroup, not a
helpdesk.

A public News Group Editing place... as I see it, where you can "cut-up"
other posts to make them seem flawed... but the real truth still
pervades, Mark.

Your site is actually readable on my MSNTV Browser... lucky you... huh?
But it's sadly boring, plain, dull (gray background... come on we are
not old foggies here) and poorly formated... do you care? No need to
reply, I know... you're not going to change it because one like me
suggests it... right?

Without a doubt!
..FYI "your" site is a M E S S on MSNTV's browser...

My site doesn't really exist. (But if you do go there you can see that
my son is doing stand up at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas on
Halloween, but that is just bragging)
oh but I know...
you could care less if 1.5 million users can't read...
<brag>Mine, on the otherhand is very accessible on MSNTV2.8+, IE5+,
NN7+, Mozilla1.4+, and Opera7.1+, and many more...</brag> ........>

But no one visits so who gives a shit....

So you're old and immature.
I haven't heard a pip-squeek of compliment about anything on my site
from anyone, only destructive criticism... that's why I'm "defensive"...

Constructive criticism and compliments are not the same thing.
Constructive criticism tries to help you improve as we have been doing.
Where I "come from"... a critic (who truthfully wants to help) would
give a small encouragement or compliment BEFORE criticizing harshly, and
before criticizing without "showing his hand" with a better webpage of
his own!

Many of us have already shown better web pages.
So many here, take unfair shots but offer no better in return... infact
what I have seen so far, almost all of the sites that these "regulars"
have are IMHO boring, plain, ranting, and poor reading in general...

The web is about information, not entertainment. Looking nice is good,
but good content is most imoortant.
I am happy to enjoy on average... 110,000 hits and 45,000 page views per
month with my site... and have literly hundreds of happy surfers who
compliment it and who ask and get help from me...

So you're misleading many "newbees" pet month. That's too bad.
How old are you! Do you have a Profile online like I do... I bet
not... my point exactly!!!

What do age and having a profile online have to do with anything?

It's unlikely that my name has anything to do with my advice, Davmagic.

Why did you snip this part of my post without responding to it?

<sarcasm>Yay! Both of their users can read the site, which is probably not
at all relevant to them anyway. Woohoo! I can retire now.</sarcasm>

Seriously, it's nice to know, but I'm really not all that worried about it
either way.
But it's sadly boring, plain, dull (gray background... come on we are

Poorly formatted in what way?
reply, I know... you're not going to change it because one like me

It serves the purpose for which it is designed. Its aim is not to impress
the eyes, but rather to get the information across quickly and easily. I
believe it achieves that. I do value different opinions, and thank you for
taking the time to visit the site, but in this case I disagree.

Just to let the original author of this post know.. your site sucks.. it
really does.. and i can see from reading thru all this that you will never
understand WHY it sucks. So i'll just let you know that I agree it sucks..
and you can continue thinking that everyone else it wrong and you are right.

the original poster. the poster who created the "newbies survey".. sorry if
replied to the wrong post. It just gets me mad that there are so many crappy
developers out there. And us good developers have to deal with clients who
say "Why should I hire you.. i can do just as good a job as the
professionals do" .. and when they say professionals.. i think sometimes
they include people like Dave in the mix. And if they do. they are 100%
correct. Anyone can load up front page or dreamweaver and make some crap
like dave did.

It just seems that the web is the only industry where quality is of no
concern. Would you bring your car to get fixed by some guy with a car in his
drive way and a sign that says "I know how to fix cars".. of course not..
but hiring dave is pretty much doing the very same thing.

I really think there needs to be some official certification process for web
developers and designers (which by the way are 2 different things at
times!).

No worries - it just wasn't quite clear (to me, anyway).

Not a bad idea in some ways, though the current system has its advantages.
Would be impossible to regulate, though, especially given the world-wide
nature of the web. Perhaps some sort of certification before they can
publish tutorials on web design would be nice though!

Difficult when a page has no redeeming features.
So many here, take unfair shots

Fair shots
but offer no better in return...

I'm reasonably sure that vast numbers of links to resources about page
design that were much better then your site were dumped in this group last
time you starting shouting about how great you think your site is.
infact
what I have seen so far, almost all of the sites that these "regulars"
have are IMHO boring, plain, ranting, and poor reading in general...

But are they factually incorrect?
I am happy to enjoy on average... 110,000 hits and 45,000 page views per
month with my site...

You're happy that you're lying to that number of people?
and have literly hundreds of happy surfers who
compliment it and who ask and get help from me...

And your happy their believe your lies?
It's only because I use (along with a Computer) a MSNTV Browser, that
these "regulars" act the way they do...

Wrong. Its because you insult anybody who refuses to contaminate their
markup with lies for the sake of one browser with almost zero marketshare,
because you insult anyone (which is almost everyone) who thinks your site
is ugly, or hard to read, or inconsistent, or less then entirely perfect in
any other way.
sad but true.... how about you,
mate? How old are you! Do you have a Profile online like I do... I bet
not... my point exactly!!! Bye.

Well I do. http://dorward.me.uk/foaf.rdf Not that its in the least bit
relevent.

Thanks for your concern, though.

I've got quite a nasty cold actually. Whatsmore, it is supposed to be my

Oh well -- two excuses for working from home.

If you're going to play willy-waving, last month I had 369,226 page
impressions, although I'll admit that it was a heavier-than-average month
as Google, Mirago and MSN all decided to hit me with their spiders at once.

Not true! I have recommended your site to newbies wanting to learn HTML. I
like it - simple, uncluttered, and informative. :)
