Back when I was a regular OOPSLA attendee, and probably still, there
were ribbons which festooned various attendee's badges. There were
ribbons for speakers, panel organizers, workshop attendees and
organizers etc. There was in fact a ribbon chairman, who usually
sported a special rainbow colored ribbon with his title.

One year the ribbon chairman decided to add a "perfect attendance"
ribbon. I never got one because I missed the first conference. Wilf
Lalonde who had been at the first and ALMOST ever other, looked at
that ribbon and said:

"Some things just can't be fixed."
