Notepad Editing Question

Chuck

No, what happened was you jumped in, asked a question, you were too
impatient to wait for an answer, then jumped at brucie for correcting
you. So rather than answering a question from a "newbie" we defended
one of the regulars.
<snip>

How was I impatient?

I "jumped" Brucie because he "jumped" me.

This is usenet. If you don't like an answer wait a few minutes and
another will come along. Can we be rude here? Sure we can. Welcome to
usenet.

Just stickin' my oar in. I have read many, many posts re this question and,
while I do enjoy the repartee, I've had my curiosity piqued by the original
question. Is there some global setting which would make Notepad and other
text handlers delete all the white space when saving a document? Just
curious. Thanks

Stephen

Here is an example:

<h1>Richland High School Alumni<br>Class of 1968</h1><center><img alt="Rebel
Flag" src="sgborder.gif" height="46" width="668" id="border"></center><p
class="class1"><br><br><br><a href="#callahan">Cathy (Callahan) Thon
</a><br><br><a href="#duer">Patti (Duer) Hightower</a><br><br><a
href="#mcclendon">Tim McClendon</a>

Because I have to edit these pages fairly often, I would like it to look
more like this when I open notepad to make my changes:

<h1>Richland High School Alumni
<br>
Class of 1968</h1>
<center>
<img alt="Rebel Flag" src="sgborder.gif" height="46" width="668"
id="border">
</center>
<p class="class1">
<br><br><br>
<a href="#callahan">Cathy (Callahan) Thon </a>
<br><br>
<a href="#duer">Patti (Duer) Hightower</a>
<br><br>
<a href="#mcclendon">Tim McClendon</a>

Thanks...

Chuck

Are you sure there are CR and LF at the end of each line? Unix uses just a
LF so when you bring it over to a Windows machine you would see the behavior
you describe. You should look at the file in a hex editor to see what the
line ending character is.

Well, alt.html usenet sucks. Don't need, or want a welcome here. Too many
arrogant jerks here. I'm sure that most of the people here are good people,
but the jerks have come out to play with my question... I'm glad that the
other NG's that I frequent don't treat new people like this one does.

I like how I can ask the same question in another forum, and got 2 answeres
with an hour, and both were very helpful. I guess that does prove that there
are still some decent people around.

And what the hell kind of a name is Brucie? Sounds like a queer to me.
Sounds like quite a few queers around actually...

Guess the homo's in here aren't smart enough to answer my question, so they
have to hide behide stupid comebacks.

Maybe the NG should be renamed atl.html.faggots.

You got a very helpful answer as it happens. Perhaps it was not the answer
you wanted, but if you read the link that brucie supplied and gain a basic
understanding of usenet etiquette then you may be able to avoid threads
like this in the future.

Not sure what this has to do with HTML, but we're here to humour you and
all the other freaks that pass by. So please take your place on the
couch, the shrink will be around shortly to cure you of your homophobia.

You have been very helpful in the past, Tobey.

But... I don't need etiquette lessons and I do have an understanding of the
usenet. Thanks...

I think you are being a little too sensitive, this really is a fun place
after you get to know everyone. but hey, it's your dime, so do what you
feel is best.

You know, maybe you should leave. Even people that have plonked me for
my arrogance have not lowered themselves to name calling like that.
Don't you think that is just a little childish?

bye Chuck.

What is the URL of a page that does this to you?
How are you getting the html from the browser to your hdd?

So why did you ask it here?

No, I don't think that I am being too sensitive. Ya know, I can dish out
alot of crap, and I can take more than my fair share of it also, but I don't
expect it right out of the hole either. If it had been a couple of weeks,
and that would have happened, I probably wouldn't have got upset. Ya know,
if ya'll want to cut up and poke fun at people, give those peole a chance to
get to know ya'll... I don't think that is asking too much.

Oh... so ya'll can rag on me, but if I rag on ya'll, now it's time for me to
leave... Sounds like a coward to me... Sorry that you can't take it now...
Guess someone got their little feelings hurt...

Apparently you don't....

Hmmmm... Taken from http://www.alt-html.org ... Now I assume that this URL
is the "FAQ" for your little NG here...

"If someone disagrees with you respect their opinion, just as they should
respect yours and move on. Don't keep threads going well past their use by
date by repeating the same arguments over and over."

Guess ya'll don't know the meaning of respect, huh?

"If someone is incorrect replying to a post politely let them know and
supply the correct answer."

Hmmmm.... Same for politely...

Can you show me where I didn't follow your etiquitte in my original post?
The only bitch that you may have, is that I multi-posted. Doesn't say
anywhere in the "alt.html basics" that I can't do that...

Mike, at this point, I don't know who to take serious, but thanks anyway, I
have already found a solution...
