Wonderful ... another abusive male I don't have to worry about on this
group. Maybe I can get some peace and actually begin chitchat about code
and stuff with people who don't want a pound of my flesh sacrificed on the
altar of CSS. My main group I post to is Scorched-Earth. It's a political
debate ng, so it's a logical conclusion that I argue topics elsewhere....
and FWIW, I'm not anyones target to slap around, and have no problem with
putting you or anyone else in your place.

However, this is an html group, and all I really wanted was to be around
people who enjoyed html and web design like I do. When all the bullies
decide to either shut up or killfile me, all that'll be left are nice people
to chat with! I'm looking forward to that.

Well, before she showed up here, I'd been familiar with her posts in
other groups, also, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Likewise, I am familiar with you from elsewhere. I don't care what you do
elsewhere, but I do care if you try to take a bite out of my cyber flesh and
feed it to the wolves here.
In a way, she reminds me of another notorious poster (not in this group,
thank goodness) whose handle starts with c and ends with r. I know you
know who I'm talking about. They have the same willingness to listen and
use criticism, and about the same level of knowledge. And the same gift
for starting - and perpetuating - arguments.

It's nice to be compared to ghosts... at least that is what it feels like
since I have no idea who you are referring to. Arguments start when someone
tries to bully another person. I won't be bullied, thank you very much....
Like I mentioned to dorayme when he/she mentioned you guys were just after a
pound of flesh... I said, more or less... if ya'll come after a pound of
flesh with me, you're going to get a black eye trying.
I'm just about done, too.

Good.. are you ready to stop attacking me and be nice yet?

Yes of course I like it. Very well done my good sir. I enjoyed
watching a few of them. The Everest one is stunning. And the girls...
but then I know your taste :)

Nice, no, excellent resolution, compared to that iffy youtube
rubbish. Mind you the feed only just kept, and sometimes didn't keep,
in front of the playback. Then again I am, after all, 300mS away on
the other side of the planet.

Well (as you know) it's a tradeoff between quality and, oh, say
"usability". The good thing is the average user bit-rates are on the
rise but then so is the average video filesize. I try to keep 'em
decent without going *too far* toward the 1080p end.
A small gripe. Perhaps you could discretely put on the clip page
somewhere the title of the clip I am watching, as well as your "The
Movie Gnu". I got a little lost remembering the one I had just
watched.

Agreed, and I was working on that at last post. It's done now, though
in javascript (because I refuse to add page bloat via double title
names, etc.,) and let me tell you - it wasn't easy.
This is what flash was designed for IMHO. To be able to watch movies,
film clips etc on a web site, when *I* choose to. I choose to click
on a movie clip thumnail and I am presented with a movie clip,
exactly as I would expect.

Yep, I hate dem autostart things, too.
Not having any sound on my development computer makes it a little
hard to listen though. Might wander over to one of the other
computers and have a real listen. <does so> Ah, yes, high res sterio
as well. Nicely. Nicely.

<rant>
What I do abhore about flash (and I think I have mentioned this
before) is the misguided notion of web dreziners that the "logo" at
the top of a normal textual web page, or even <shudder>the
navigation</shudder> should be a motion picture epic, distracting
everyones attention from the real content of the page.
</rant>

No argument from me. I'm not try to heap praise on myself or anything
like that but most (-HUGE majority) of the so-called web pages out
there are total crap.
With your pages, when one drills down to them, the content *is* the
flash movie and nothing else, apart from your title (and caption?)
and a nice friendly gray surround to that in no way distracts from
the content.

Er... :)

Thanks for the info, rf.

I like it .. loads quickly, too. Have you thought about using a
pagination script and putting the imgs into categories people can
scroll through and then having the target page load below the
category images? That way people would not have to leave the start
page, and it would increase your time spent on that page.... another
idea... Possibly using slightly smaller thumbnails, with a mouseover
within that pagination script that would give them a larger image and
a tooltip text description of the image?

Hmm, some interesting ideas. I'll have to mull them over a bit. I've
been toying with a mouseover idea but for details (cast, genre, release
date, etc.,) as opposed to larger pics.
I'm using IE7 ...

Thanks alot for your views.

It isn't up to your client to tell you to fix your code. If/when they
get the call from the netbook/Mac/Opera user, they will probably think
"oh, it's the browser's fault. Use IE; it works there." No, it's your
fault.

This is steadily getting to be a non-IE world. At most of my sites, IE
is below 60%. But if you think turning away 40% of your clients'
business is an okay thing ... well ... wait until the client finds out
he might nearly double his income.

Maybe on your sites. I just checked 2 of my sites for the past 2 months
and IE was nearer 80%. Add Firefox to that and the pair were about 90%
of all hits.

Your response shows that you might have a small modicum of intelligence
since you are getting my drift to *back off*.. I don't need anyones gang
slap and am quite capable of rebuffing such instances with a cyber black

You could make it really snazzy. It already loads very fast, which is an
attractive aspect to any site with video on it. You could have alot more
content on that one page by consolidating into a pagination format, or
something similar. Your functionality could be multiplied many times over
and anyone visiting that page would be likely to come back often. Adding
other content to that page along with the video would also increase time
spent on your site, which, if you have advertisers, is an attractive selling
point. Some advertisers go for clicks, others go for clicks and time
spent. You have the potential for both with a little re-orgainization. :D
Thanks alot for your views.

Not based on anything we've seen you aren't.

Not everything is as it seems.

People tried to be helpful. *You* chose to be dismissive, talk about
getting paid (LOL), and ignore everything that was said. You have said
many times that you do not care about standards and everything we've
seen proves this is correct. Fine, you can continue to live in your
little bubble of willful ignorance and continue to think you're a
wonderful web designer because people more ignorant than you pay you
money to 'design' crap.

One.. I don't NEED anything from anyone here ... two ... I'm here for fun
and possibly to learn some new stuff, but I have no problem with telling you
and the other bulls in a china closet what you can do with your bully type
approach. Three... it's a good thing to be paid ... Four, I might be able
to actually help you or someone else.. and Five ... there are a few people
here who are NOT jerks, so I'll take a risk and see if it's worth hanging
out here for a while or not.

No one here knows your sex. You *claim* to be female, but that is
meaningless as no one here knows you in person.

Well.. Lewis ... my name is Jenn .. that's short for Jennifer. I've never
met a man named Jennifer.. have you?
Ya'll know I'm a woman and I really am not going to worry about whether you
believe that or not.
You could be a 42
year-old longshoreman from Norfolk. You could be a transexual
hermaphrodite from the suburbs of St Petersburg. You could be a dog. You
are not being 'slapped' because you are 'a lady'. Stop hiding behind
your supposed sex, no one here cares.

Are you projecting or daydreaming or stuck in some sort of wishful thinking
scenario?
*There* is comment worthy of a troll.

That was a comment from a lady who knows a bully when she encounters one and
if a man if a bully on a ng, it's a logical conclusion that he is probably
also a bully to women in real life.

Answer the question...How often do you slap the ladies verbally in real
life?

Ah, so you are a sexist female who believes your genitals entitle you to
special treatment. You are so 'fragile' that people have to take special
care around you in case, what, you burst into tears? Your treatment here
is a result of *your* behavior, not your genitals.

I'm one of those women who believes it's good to treat women like ladies and
to talk to them in that manner. However, I'm not so fragile that I can't
take you on or anyone else for that matter, and let you know in no uncertain
terms to back off.

You better believe I brought GENDER into this discussion. I'm a woman and I
don't appreciate a bunch of men gang slapping me verbally. Back off...
